Surrounded by deep moats and 37 bastions, it has two gates, namely Suraj Pol, the main entrance to the fort and Katran Pol which faces east. Encircled by a high wall, the fort complex has several palaces, temples and pavilions displaying the highest form of craftsmanship. Made of Red sandstone, the interior of the fort is adorned with beautiful Rajput paintings, amazing mirror-work and awe-inspiring lacquer-work. Multi-Storeyed Anup Mahal, which was the governance chamber, displays a variety of artifacts. Similarly, Moon Palace and Pooja Mahal famous for paintings and carved marble panels are worth exploring.
